Because most burglars enter homes by opening unlocked doors or windows, before shelling out big bucks for an alarm system or other gadgets, take some basic measures to improve your home’s security. Many of the most effective security strategies cost nothing or very little.

The advantages of the PIN code technology are that PIN codes work immediately, the Padlock does not need to be connected to the internet, and the owner does not need to be within proximity of the device. PIN codes are sent via a messaging system of the owner’s choice—Facebook Messenger, Skype, SMS, WhatsApp—and once received, they can immediately be used. Duration of access can be set and limited from one-time PINs to recurring and permanent ones, including setting the exact time and date at which a PIN code becomes active and expires.

Sunflower Labs, a San Francisco-based startup, is combining motion detectors, a quadcopter and a phone app into a home security system. The Sunflower system could go on sale in 2020, according to CEO Alex Pachikov, who expects to charge wealthy customers several hundred dollars a month for the peace of mind — and replacement hardware if anything breaks. For comparison, premium security systems can cost more than $100 a month, and Sunflower says that six-camera systems can cost up to $300 per month.

Clearly I’m a skeptic, but this doesn’t mean I don’t see clear promise and utility in the Galaxy Fold. I use my phone constantly throughout the day, but then spend a fair amount of time on my tablet at night and on weekends. So I would love for my phone to expand into a tablet for Netflix, as Samsung demoed at Unpacked. And I would love to have a full-screen Chrome experience for when I’m looking up trivia, sports scores and sundry other unimportant things when kicking back on the couch.

"The on-device microphone was never intended to be a secret and should have been listed in the tech specs. That was an error on our part," Google said in a statement to USA TODAY. "The microphone has never been on and is only activated when users specifically enable the option," the company’s statement continued. "Security systems often use microphones to provide features that rely on sound sensing. We included the mic on the device so that we can potentially offer additional features to our users in the future, such as the ability to detect broken glass."

Silicon Labs (SiLabs), the $4.5 billion market cap firm that owns the Z-Wave tech, admitted "a known device pairing vulnerability" existed. But it didn’t specify any upcoming updates and downplayed the severity of the attack, adding "there have been no known real-world exploits to report."

But the rhetoric also has origins in some real-world problems, such as a crumbling of confidence in the country’s democratic institutions and its paralyzed federal government. With Congress largely deadlocked, governance on the most controversial issues has been left to the Supreme Court or has come through executive or emergency actions, such as Trump’s border-wall effort.

She’s hoping that will stop the break-ins. If not– she will be looking for a more permanent solution.

Alright, so let’s talk about that 6.4-inch Infinity-O Super AMOLED display. You have the usual suspects here, which are vivid colors, wide viewing angles, and excellent brightness levels. But Samsung has worked on color accuracy as well. The S10+ (along with the S10 and S10e) has the most accurate screen on a smartphone ever in that regard. If you’re a regular user of Samsung’s flagship phones, you’ll notice how the display has warmer whites (yellowish) out of the box than any previous flagship, possibly a result of the color accurate tuning.
